چکیده

Low energy positron production and storage may be used to make and observe some interesting many-positron, many-electron systems both in vacuum and in the presence of ordinary matter. One of the most interesting possibilities is to make an annihilation photon laser. One might start on the path to this laser by creating a high density positron burst and forming a dense gas of positronium atoms within a cavity in a solid. This will pave the way for subsequently demonstrating the near room temperature Bose–Einstein condensation of a dense gas of positronium and establishing conditions under which stimulated emission of annihilation photons can be observed. 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. Tachyon condensation due to domain-wall annihilation in Bose-Einstein condensates.

We show theoretically that a domain-wall annihilation in two-component Bose-Einstein condensates causes tachyon condensation accompanied by spontaneous symmetry breaking in a two-dimensional subspace. Three-dimensional vortex formation from domain-wall annihilations is considered a kink formation in subspace. Numerical experiments reveal that the subspatial dynamics obey the dynamic scaling law...

Prospects for making a Bose-Einstein-condensed Positronium Annihilation Gamma Ray Laser

An annihilation gamma ray laser could be made by a cylinder of high density cold singlet Ps annihilating into a coherent gamma ray burst directed along the axis of the cylinder. Such a laser would have many important uses and prospects seem fair for making a 1J model in the immediate future. Higher intensity lasers that would be useful for controled fusion are envisioned, but involve so many or...

Positronium-positronium interaction: Resonance, scattering length, and Bose-Einstein condensation

The low-energy scattering of ortho positronium (Ps) by ortho Ps has been studied in a full quantum mechanical coupled-channel approach. In the singlet channel (total spin sT = 0) we find Sand P-wave resonances at 3.35 eV (width 0.02 eV) and 5.05 eV (width 0.04 eV), respectively and a binding of 0.43 eV of Ps2. The scattering length for sT = 0 is 3.95 Å and for sT = 2 is 0.83 Å. The small sT = 2...

Afrl-rw-eg-tr-2009-7080 Positronium Annihilation Gamma Ray Laser

The goal of the work reported here is the perfection of a powerful laser based on the coherent annihilation of a Bose-Einstein condensate of positronium, the hydrogen-like atoms formed from bound electronpositron pairs. We have made progress in several areas that takes us closer to our goal. Specifically we report (I) advances in positron storage and manipulation techniques; (II) Development of...

The studies of Fermi–Dirac correlations of ΛΛ and ¯ Λ ¯ Λ pairs in hadronic Z decays, Bose–Einstein correlations and colour reconnection in W-pairs decays performed by the ALEPH collaboration in e + e − annihilation at LEP are presented. The OPAL analysis of Bose–Einstein correlations in W-pair decays is also discussed.
